`Babec`, the 24-year-old gorilla, lives in Birmingham zoo since 1993 and was diagnosed as suffering from cardiovascular disease last spring. Heart-procedure was indicated - and performed.

He had a transesophageal echocardiogram, in which a tube holding an ultrasound was placed down his esophagus to examine his heart.

Babec has had the procedure two times before. Each procedure lasts two to four hours.

According to zoo spokesman Ed Noles, the incurable disease may manifest into a cough, lethargy, poor appetite and fluid buildup.

Acyclovir and Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 multiplication in vitromembers
Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV‐3), also known as koi herpesvirus (KHV), is an aetiological agent of a virulent and lethal disease in common and koi carp. In this study, the authors examined in vitro the anti‐CyHV‐3 activity of acyclovir (ACV), nucleoside analogue commonly used against human herpesviruses, as well as acyclovir monophospate (ACV‐MP).
