Avian influenza is spreading in Poland
 |
At the beginning of December the H5N1 virus infected Poland`s main poultry region - the area around Plock. 120 000 fowl in a bid have been culled to stop an outbreak of bird flu that swept 52 large farms around the central town of Plock, as a radio report said.

It might be possible that about one million fowl in the large farms and hundreds of small ones in the Plock region may be affected.
With 230 000 metric tons of poultry exports in 2006, Poland is considered one of the major poultry suppliers in the European Union,
which last week suspended imports from Poland for 30 days.
Especially in December (before Christmas) this import stop of the EU, Russia and some other countries means heavy economical losses for Poland.

Acyclovir and Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 multiplication in vitro
Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV‐3), also known as koi herpesvirus (KHV), is an aetiological agent of a virulent and lethal disease in common and koi carp. In this study, the authors examined in vitro the anti‐CyHV‐3 activity of acyclovir (ACV), nucleoside analogue commonly used against human herpesviruses, as well as acyclovir monophospate (ACV‐MP).
