Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), is now endemic in most areas of the UK. It is transmitted by the movement of the pigs, airborne transmission (up to two miles) or contaminated vehicles, equipment or clothing.

Acute outbreaks of clinical disease are represented by increased abortions, weak and stillborn piglets, premature farrowings and generally reduced reproductive performance. In young growing pigs, PRRS is responsible for respiratory disease either alone or as part of the Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC). More information about herd management of PRRS is available here.
Ingelvac® PRRS KV (killed vaccine) is indicated for the control of Porcine and Respiratory Syndrome in breeding sows and gilts. Gilts should be vaccinated with Ingelvac PRRS KV during acclimatization and before entering the pig herd. After their initial course, animals are boosted once during each pregnancy. Vaccinated animals show improved reproductive performance as shown by fewer early farrowings and stillbirths. In addition, vaccinated animals produce fewer infected piglets and pass on improved colostral immunity.

Bisolvon® injection and powder is indicated as an aid to the treatment for respiratory disease where mucus is a complicating factor. Bisolvon leads to the production of less viscous mucous and increases the concentration of the antibiotics administered. Bisolvon is available in an injectable and oral formulation.
Monzaldon® is a uterine relaxant used as an aid to difficult farrowings in sows and gilts.
Voren® is a long acting anti-inflammatory corticosteroid licensed for the treatment of pigs. It may be used for the treatment of conditions such as MMA syndrome in newly farrowed sows.
